How it works

  • Send a photo of your DOT notice (or the violation number) and the address.
  • We look at the sidewalk and give you a written price for the flags and curbs listed.
  • Sidewalk work generally needs a DOT permit; we’ll go over permit requirements for your job.
  • After the repair, you request DOT’s dismissal inspection.

Before you pay for repairs

  • One-, two- or three-family home with damage from a City street tree? Check NYC Parks’ Trees & Sidewalks Program first; the City may repair it.
  • If the owner doesn’t repair, DOT may do the work and bill the owner.
  • Check which flags the notice lists. Repairing extra flags is your choice, not a requirement.

Common defects DOT cites

  • Raised or sunken flags (trip hazards)
  • Cracked, broken or missing flags
  • Defective curbs and patchwork
  • Hardware or vault covers not flush with the sidewalk
  • Improper slope or materials
FAQ

Common questions

Who is responsible for my sidewalk?

In NYC, property owners are generally responsible for the sidewalk adjacent to their property. See NYC DOT’s sidewalk pages for details.

Will repairing the sidewalk remove the violation?

Repairs alone don’t close it. After the work, the owner requests a dismissal inspection from DOT. Our guide explains the steps.

Do I have to replace the whole sidewalk?

No. The notice lists the defective flags. You can choose to do more, and we’ll price both options.

Can you work around a street tree?

Work near City street trees generally needs NYC Parks approval and care around roots. We’ll go over what applies.
