What to do in the next hour

  • Move valuables and electronics away from the leak and put down buckets or towels.
  • If water is near light fixtures or outlets, switch off that circuit at the panel if it’s safe to do so.
  • If a ceiling is bulging with water, keep people away from it.
  • Take photos of the ceiling and, if it’s safe to reach, the roof. They help us and your insurer.
  • Don’t go on a roof in high wind, ice or lightning.

Where flat-roof leaks usually start

  • Flashing at parapets, chimneys, bulkheads and skylights
  • Clogged or failed drains and scuppers that leave water ponding
  • Open seams and blisters in older EPDM or modified bitumen
  • The joint where an extension roof meets the house wall
  • Parapets and copings, where water enters the wall above the roof line

Temporary vs. permanent repairs

  • In bad weather, a temporary repair can stop active water until a permanent fix is possible.
  • Once it’s dry, we make the permanent repair or explain why replacement makes more sense.
  • You get the scope and price in writing before permanent work starts.
FAQ

Common questions

Do you offer 24/7 emergency service?

Call 718-427-5991. If we can’t take your job right away, we’ll tell you honestly so you can make other arrangements.

Can a roof be repaired in the rain or in winter?

Temporary repairs can often be made in poor weather; permanent membrane repairs need dry conditions. We’ll explain what’s possible on your roof.

Is the leak always right above the stain?

No. Water travels along the deck and inside walls, so the source can be several feet away, or in the parapet rather than the roof.

Will insurance cover a roof leak?

That depends on your policy and the cause. Photos and our written findings can help when you talk to your insurer.
